2027 Toyota bZ: What's Changing, Release Date and Pricing for New York Drivers

Two years ago Toyota's electric SUV was hard to recommend. Then the 2026 refresh dropped the "4X" from its name and rebuilt everything underneath, and the bZ became the fourth best-selling EV in America. The 2027 car arrives essentially unchanged, at a price that moved by eighty dollars. For New Yorkers, the number that matters is not on Toyota's sheet at all.

Where the 2027 information stands. Toyota published 2027 bZ grades, range and pricing on August 18, 2026, and cars began reaching dealerships in September. Range figures are EPA estimates carried over on unchanged hardware. Anything about future model years is flagged as industry expectation.

What's changing on the 2027 Toyota bZ?

Very little, and after last year that is the right answer. The 2027 bZ is a carryover: same 57.7-kWh and 74.7-kWh battery packs, same 168-, 221- and 338-horsepower configurations, same bodywork, same 14-inch screen.

Everything worth changing already changed for 2026, when the bZ4X became the bZ, gained a native NACS charge port, and picked up roughly 25 percent more range and about 50 percent more power in all-wheel-drive form. A carryover year on top of that means the bugs are found and the price sheet is settled — a different proposition from buying into year one of anything.

What does move is money. Every grade takes an $80 increase and the delivery fee rises from $1,450 to $1,595. Call it $225 all-in per car.

When is the 2027 Toyota bZ release date?

Release timing at a glance

  • Announced: yes — grades, range and pricing confirmed August 18, 2026.
  • On sale: now. Toyota opened ordering in August.
  • Dealership arrivals: September 2026 — first New York deliveries are happening this month.
  • bZ Woodland: priced separately on August 5, 2026, arriving on a similar schedule.
  • Order of arrival: XLE grades usually fill allocation first.
  • What to do now: tell us the grade, drivetrain and color you want and we will flag the first matching allocation — no deposit, no obligation.

One pattern holds harder on EVs than anywhere: the weeks a new model year lands are often the best weeks to buy the outgoing one, because factory support on remaining stock frequently beats what launches next. Our lease specials and manufacturer incentives show where that stands today.

Will the 2027 Toyota bZ cost more?

Yes, by an amount most shoppers will not notice. The base XLE FWD opens at $34,980 against $34,900 last year — $36,575 to the curb with delivery. The top Limited AWD lists at $45,380. Every grade between moved the same $80.

The number that actually decides your out-the-door price in New York is not Toyota's. It is the NYSERDA Drive Clean Rebate, a point-of-sale discount rather than a tax credit you wait a year to claim. It pays up to $2,000 on eligible new EVs — but drops to a flat $500 for any car with a base MSRP above $42,000.

The $42,000 line matters more than the $80. All three XLE grades sit under the cap with more than 200 miles of range, putting them in the top rebate tier. Both Limited grades sit above it. That $1,500 swing narrows the real gap between an XLE AWD and a Limited AWD far more than the sticker suggests. Eligibility is confirmed per VIN at sale, so ask us to check the exact car.

The other half: the federal $7,500 clean vehicle credit ended for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025 — any article still quoting it is out of date. New York EV savings now come from state and utility programs, plus whatever Toyota supports that month.

Three things fall out of that table. The XLE FWD Plus is the range champion at 314 miles, asking $3,000 over the base car for 78 extra miles and 53 extra horsepower — the best-value step in the lineup. The XLE AWD suits New York winters and is the last grade under the rebate cliff. And the Limited buys equipment, not capability: 20-inch alloys, a panoramic roof, heated rear seats, SofTex and a digital rearview mirror, at the cost of range and $1,500 of state rebate.

Charging a bZ in New York without an adapter in the glovebox

The most useful thing about this car in the tri-state area is its charge port. The bZ has a native NACS inlet, so Tesla Superchargers work directly — no adapter, no dongle — and Plug & Charge handles payment without opening an app. Given Supercharger density across the boroughs, Westchester and Long Island, that makes the largest fast-charging network in the country your default.

The hardware: 150 kW peak DC, roughly 30 minutes from 10 to 80 percent, and preconditioning that warms the pack before you arrive so a February session does not crawl. On alternating current the onboard charger takes 11 kW, up from 7.6 kW on the old bZ4X — the difference between an overnight fill in about seven hours and one that runs past breakfast.

One honest gap: the bZ still does not offer true one-pedal driving, and there is no built-in EV trip planner. Regenerative braking is strong and adjustable, and in stop-and-go you will barely notice — but coming from a car that stops itself completely, that is the adjustment.

Why the bZ makes the most sense if you have a driveway

Every EV recommendation in this city carries an asterisk about where you park, so here it is plainly: the bZ is at its best for New Yorkers with a house, a driveway or a private garage. Southern Brooklyn, eastern Queens, most of Staten Island and much of Nassau are full of exactly those homes.

Plug into a 240-volt outlet overnight and the car is full every morning, the way a phone is. You stop visiting gas stations and stop planning your week around them. And you start earning money for something you were doing anyway: Con Edison's SmartCharge New York pays 10 cents per kWh for charging between midnight and 8 a.m., plus $35 a month for avoiding weekday afternoon peaks in summer, with participants averaging around $400 a year.

We will help you get the charger in. Tell us at delivery and we will walk you through Level 2 equipment, connect you with licensed electricians who file the work properly with the city, and point you at whichever state and utility programs are live when you buy — those terms change often enough that we check them per customer rather than printing a number here.

If you park on the street, a bZ still works — 236 miles is a lot of city driving, and PlugNYC curbside chargers keep expanding — but a hybrid may fit your life with less thought. We sell plenty of both and will tell you which your week actually calls for.

How the 2027 bZ compares with the 2026 restyle

Set a 2025 bZ4X next to a 2027 bZ and almost nothing carries over except the e-TNGA floor. All-wheel-drive output climbed from 214 to 338 horsepower. Maximum front-drive range rose from 252 to 314 miles. The CCS port became NACS and moved to the passenger side. A smaller 57.7-kWh battery created a cheaper entry point. Level 2 charging went from 7.6 kW to 11 kW. Inside, a 14-inch screen and physical controls replaced the old car's awkward instrument binnacle. And the base price fell — $38,520 with destination in 2025 against $36,575 today.

So 2026 was the real change and 2027 is the consolidation. Industry watchers expect Toyota's next move here to involve battery chemistry rather than sheet metal, though nothing is confirmed on U.S. timing.

Inside the 2027 Toyota bZ

Every grade gets the 14-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch customizable instrument display, a top-mounted Multi-Information Display, dual Qi wireless chargers, ambient lighting, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. Six speakers are standard; nine-speaker JBL is available on Limited. All models are Digital Key capable, and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard throughout.

The center console rewards a test drive. Toyota moved the drive selector and climate controls back to physical, glove-friendly hardware after the criticism the bZ4X collected, with real open storage underneath.

Space for people and gear

Rear seat room is the bZ's quiet advantage over most compact electric SUVs. A dedicated EV platform means a flat floor, so the middle passenger is not straddling a transmission tunnel. Limited grades add heated rear seats, which matter more in a New York January than most spec-sheet numbers.

Behind those seats sit 27.7 cubic feet of cargo space — a Costco run, or two large suitcases plus a stroller. Fold the second row and it roughly doubles. The Woodland opens to 74.3 cubic feet, which is the version to look at if you tow a small trailer or spend weekends upstate.

The good news, and the part we will not oversell

Start with the market's verdict: the bZ was the fourth best-selling EV in the United States through the first half of 2026, ahead of nameplates with far more press. Toyota as a brand had a good awards year too — Kelley Blue Book named it the most awarded manufacturer of 2026, with four Best Buy category wins including RAV4 for Best Compact SUV and Camry for Best Midsize Car, and gave Toyota Best Resale Value of All Brands, the award that quietly shapes your lease payment.

On safety we will be straight rather than cherry-pick. The IIHS rated the bZ Good in the updated side-impact test and Good for both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention, Acceptable in the two overlap front tests, and Poor for headlight visibility. Because headlights are a hard gate, the bZ does not carry a 2026 Top Safety Pick, though the pre-refresh bZ4X did. The battery is covered eight years or 100,000 miles, with two years of maintenance included through ToyotaCare.

What the bZ actually gives a New York driver

Range anxiety is largely a suburban problem. The typical New York City household drives well under the national average, so 236 miles against a ten-mile commute means plugging in weekly, not nightly. The 314-mile XLE FWD Plus turns a Montauk weekend into a one-stop trip.

The advantages that matter here are less obvious. Instant torque makes merging onto the Belt or the BQE from a short ramp easier than in a comparable gas crossover. Nothing idles, so sitting in traffic on the Van Wyck costs almost nothing. Regenerative braking does most of the slowing in stop-and-go, so brake pads last dramatically longer on potholed streets. There is no oil to change, the cabin is quiet in a way that changes how a long crawl home feels, and at roughly 28 to 30 kWh per 100 miles you can price your commute in advance instead of guessing at gas.

Cross-shop the whole segment without moving your car

Plaza Toyota is part of Plaza Auto Mall, family-owned on Nostrand Avenue since 1975: five new-vehicle brands, a certified pre-owned program for each, and a multibrand used operation covering makes we do not sell new — over 1,000 vehicles in stock, all within a seven-minute walk.

For an EV shopper that geography does real work. Drive a bZ, then walk to a Hyundai Kona or Tucson, then a Kia Sportage Hybrid or Seltos, then a Honda CR-V Hybrid — same afternoon, one appointment. Not sure electric is right yet? That is exactly the comparison to make side by side. Acura of Brooklyn shares the block for anything more premium.

Arrive with the numbers settled. Our pre-approval asks for no Social Security number and no date of birth, and returns a real payment range before anyone touches your credit.

Then stack what is available: lease specials update monthly and often combine with factory incentives and the state rebate. An early trade appraisal often covers the step from an XLE FWD to an XLE FWD Plus, and we buy cars whether or not you buy ours.

Frequently asked questions

What is changing on the 2027 Toyota bZ?
Almost nothing mechanically. The 2027 bZ carries over the 2026 refresh: same batteries, same 168, 221 and 338 horsepower configurations, same styling and screen. Pricing rises $80 per grade and the delivery fee moves from $1,450 to $1,595.
When does the 2027 Toyota bZ arrive at dealerships?
Toyota announced 2027 pricing on August 18, 2026, and cars began reaching U.S. dealerships in September 2026. New York deliveries are happening now, with XLE grades filling allocation first.
How much does the 2027 Toyota bZ cost?
The XLE FWD opens at $34,980 and the Limited AWD tops the range at $45,380, both before the $1,595 delivery fee. The bZ Woodland runs $45,380 to $47,480. Entry car to the curb is $36,575 before tax, title and any state rebate.
Which 2027 bZ grade has the most range?
The XLE FWD Plus, at an EPA-estimated 314 miles. Limited FWD follows at 299, XLE AWD at 288, Limited AWD at 278, and the base XLE FWD at 236 miles on the smaller pack.
Does the 2027 Toyota bZ work at Tesla Superchargers?
Yes, directly. The bZ has a built-in NACS port, so no adapter is needed, and Plug & Charge handles payment. Peak DC charging is 150 kW — roughly 30 minutes from 10 to 80 percent — and preconditioning protects speed in cold weather.
What EV incentives can a New York buyer still get?
The federal $7,500 credit ended for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. New York's NYSERDA Drive Clean Rebate remains a point-of-sale discount of up to $2,000, dropping to a flat $500 above $42,000 MSRP. Con Edison's SmartCharge New York separately pays for off-peak home charging.
Is the bZ a good choice if I park on the street in New York City?
It can be, since 236 to 314 miles covers weeks of typical city driving. But the bZ is strongest for drivers with a driveway, garage or dedicated parking, where overnight charging costs least and takes no effort. Street parkers should compare a hybrid first.
What is the difference between the bZ and the bZ Woodland?
The Woodland is nearly six inches longer and an inch taller, with standard dual-motor all-wheel drive making 375 horsepower, 8.3 inches of ground clearance, a 3,500-pound tow rating and roof rails. It opens to 74.3 cubic feet with the second row folded, rated at 281 miles on all-seasons or 260 on all-terrains.
Can I reserve a 2027 Toyota bZ at Plaza Toyota before it arrives?
Yes. Tell us the grade, drivetrain and color you want and we will match you to the first arriving allocation — no deposit, no obligation. We will also flag which incoming cars fall under the $42,000 rebate threshold.
I am not in Brooklyn. How do delivery and service work?
We deliver purchased vehicles free within 25 miles, covering all five boroughs and much of Nassau. Service pickup and drop-off runs across the whole NYC metro area, and our team works in fifteen-plus languages.
What is Plaza Auto Mall, and why does it matter to an EV shopper?
The family-owned group Plaza Toyota belongs to, on Nostrand Avenue since 1975. Five new-vehicle franchises — Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Kia and Acura — each with a certified pre-owned program, sit within a seven-minute walk, with over 1,000 vehicles in stock. For a first-time EV buyer that means driving an electric, a hybrid and a gas crossover back to back.
Do you sell used cars from brands other than the five you represent?
Yes. Our multibrand used operation covers makes we do not sell new, so a used Model 3, Ioniq 5 or Mach-E can sit on the same block as a certified Toyota. Browse the full group used inventory to see what is in stock today.
