2027 Toyota Camry: What Changes, Release Date and Pricing for New York Drivers
Published August 27, 2026 · Last updated August 27, 2026

A midsize sedan that averages better than 50 mpg in the city, offers all-wheel drive on every trim and still starts under $30,000 is a strange thing to find in 2026. That is the Camry, and 2027 is nearly here.
What’s changing on the 2027 Toyota Camry?
Very little, and that is the honest answer rather than a hedge. The Camry was rebuilt from the floor up for 2025 — ninth generation, hybrid-only, no V6, all-wheel drive on every trim — and 2026 added the blacked-out Nightshade Edition plus Dark Cosmos paint. Industry outlets covering 2027 describe a straight carryover: same trims, powertrain, cabin and screens, with the next real update expected around 2028.
That matters more than it sounds. A carryover year is the easiest year to shop: everything written about the current car applies to the one you order, and what you test drive this month is mechanically what shows up wearing a 2027 badge.

When is the 2027 Toyota Camry release date?
Release timing at a glance
- Officially announced: no. Toyota has published no 2027 Camry pricing sheet or EPA data for the U.S. market.
- Recent cadence: the 2026 Camry reached dealers in the second half of 2025, matching the pattern this nameplate has held for years.
- Expected window: industry trackers put the arrival in the late-summer-to-fall 2026 range, with deliveries into early 2027.
- Order of arrival: volume trims — LE and SE — usually land first, with the others filling in behind.
- What to do now: tell us the trim, drivetrain and color you want and we will flag the first matching allocation. No deposit, no obligation.
One pattern holds regardless of model: the weeks a new model year is announced are often the strongest weeks to buy the outgoing one, because factory support on remaining stock frequently beats whatever launches next. Our lease specials and current manufacturer incentives show where that stands now.

Will the 2027 Toyota Camry cost more?
Probably, and probably not by much. Industry estimates cluster around a one to three percent increase for 2027 — on a Camry, somewhere between a few hundred dollars and roughly a thousand depending on trim. Nothing is confirmed, and Toyota tends to adjust individual grades rather than lift the whole ladder at once.
For reference, the 2026 Camry opens at $29,100 for the LE and tops out at $35,500 for the XSE, with destination adding $1,195 and all-wheel drive roughly $1,525 on any grade. Even at the high end of the expected increase, the entry point stays near $30,000 with freight.
The part that gets overlooked: factory financing moves independently of sticker price, and a modest MSRP bump absorbed by a better rate never reaches the monthly payment. Our pre-approval needs no Social Security number or date of birth and tells you more than any published figure.
Every Camry trim, compared
Toyota has not released a 2027 trim sheet. The table below is the confirmed 2026 lineup, which industry coverage expects to carry into 2027 unchanged: five trims, one powertrain, all-wheel drive optional on all of them.
| Trim | Wheels & character | EPA mpg FWD (city/hwy/comb) | EPA mpg AWD (city/hwy/comb) | 2026 starting MSRP | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2.5L hybrid, electronically controlled CVT — 225 hp FWD / 232 hp AWD on every grade | |||||
| LE | 16-inch wheels, comfort tune | 52 / 49 / 51 | 50 / 49 / 50 | $29,100 | Efficiency leader and value pick |
| SE | 18-inch black wheels, sport suspension | 47 / 45 / 46 | 46 / 46 / 46 | $31,600 | Sport look below top-trim money |
| Nightshade | 19-inch black wheels, blacked-out trim | 47 / 45 / 46 | 46 / 46 / 46 | $32,600 | SE mechanicals, darkest appearance |
| XLE | 18-inch wheels, comfort tune, leather-trimmed | 47 / 45 / 46 | 46 / 46 / 46 | $34,300 | Quiet and well equipped, comfort ride |
| XSE | 19-inch wheels, sport suspension | 47 / 45 / 46 | 43 / 43 / 43 | $35,500 | Sharpest-driving Camry |
Three things the table does not say. Nightshade is an appearance package on SE mechanicals, so it drives like an SE despite the larger wheels. All-wheel drive costs almost nothing in fuel economy on most grades — SE and XLE lose zero combined mpg — but XSE AWD drops to 43. And the LE’s 51 mpg comes partly from its smaller 16-inch wheels, which is also why it rides most comfortably over broken pavement.

How it compares with the last generation
The reference point is the 2025 redesign, which replaced a car sold from 2018 through 2024. That older Camry offered a 203-horsepower 2.5-liter four, a 301-horsepower V6 on the XSE and TRD, and an optional hybrid making 208 horsepower — three powertrains, an eight-speed automatic on the gas cars, and all-wheel drive available only with gas.
The current car collapsed that into one system: a 2.5-liter four with Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid setup for 225 horsepower, or 232 with a third motor driving the rear axle. Fuel economy climbed from 32 mpg combined on the old gas LE to 51 today. The V6 and the TRD are gone; 2024 was the last year for either.
Inside, the standard touchscreen went to 8 inches with an available 12.3-inch unit, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto became standard, and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 replaced the older suite. The trunk held at 15.1 cubic feet even with the battery packaged beneath the rear seats.

Front-drive or all-wheel drive for a New York routine?
Front-wheel drive wins on efficiency and price. The LE FWD is the only Camry rated at 51 mpg combined, and skipping AWD saves about $1,525. On decent tires, front-drive handles the vast majority of New York winters.
All-wheel drive wins on the days you remember. It uses a rear electric motor rather than a driveshaft, so there is no tunnel penalty and, on SE and XLE, no combined-mpg penalty at all. Wet bridge decks, an unplowed side street after a storm, a ramp with standing water — that is where the money comes back.
Wheel size matters more than people expect. The 19s on Nightshade and XSE look sharp and are why XSE AWD sits at 43 combined; on freeze-thaw pavement they also demand care around curbs. The LE’s 16s and the 18s on SE and XLE are the more forgiving daily choice.

Inside: screens, sound and the details that earn their keep
Every Camry arrives with an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control and a wireless charging pad. Step up and the screen grows to 12.3 inches, the cluster matches it, and a nine-speaker JBL system becomes available. The detail that ages best is the one nobody photographs: Toyota kept physical climate controls below the screen, and adjusting the fan without looking away from a crowded avenue beats another inch of display.

What the awards actually say
Kelley Blue Book named the 2026 Camry its Best Buy Award winner for the midsize car segment — a second straight year, after the Camry ended the Honda Accord’s nine-year hold on the category. KBB also ranks it first among midsize cars and points to class-leading resale value.
On safety, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it TOP SAFETY PICK+, its highest designation, and NHTSA rated it 5 stars overall. Cars.com noted that among direct rivals only the Hyundai Sonata also reaches TOP SAFETY PICK+; the Accord earns the second-tier award.
Edmunds named it Top Rated Sedan for a second straight year in February 2026, observing 46 mpg in real-world testing of an XSE. U.S. News gave it the Best Midsize Hybrid Car for the Money award for 2026.
Why the Camry works on New York streets
Start with what nobody advertises: a midsize sedan is easier to live with here than a midsize SUV. The Camry clears posted height limits in older parking structures that a roof-railed crossover has to think twice about, and its footprint fits street spots a taller vehicle would skip. Small daily wins, compounded over years of ownership.
Then running costs. Insurance, tolls, garage rent and registration arrive whether or not you drove that week. Fuel is the line you control, and here the Camry is unusual: hybrids do their best work in the conditions that punish everything else. Crawling on the Belt, sitting on Queens Boulevard, idling in a tunnel queue — the engine shuts off, the motor takes over, and the city rating climbs above the highway one. A 13.2-gallon tank at 51 mpg means roughly 670 miles between fill-ups.
The rest is ordinary things done well: a 15.1-cubic-foot trunk that takes two airport bags without folding a seat, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert standard on every trim — useful backing out between parked box trucks. Two cautions: ground clearance is 5.4 inches, so steep driveway aprons deserve a slow approach, and street-parking a Nightshade or XSE means watching those 19-inch wheels near curbs.
Want a smaller footprint? The Corolla costs less and parks easier. Need height and cargo? Our RAV4 Hybrid and Highlander pages pick up there, and the Crown Signia splits the difference.
