The Corolla Cross is the answer for the New Yorker who wants a Corolla but needs a hatch, a higher seat and eight inches of clearance over a broken curb cut. For 2027 it arrives fresh off a serious mid-cycle overhaul, with every hybrid grade still carrying all-wheel drive as standard and 42 mpg combined on the window sticker. Here is what is settled, what is not, and how the numbers land for someone parking on a street in Queens or a garage in Manhattan.

Where the 2027 information stands. Toyota has not yet published 2027 Corolla Cross grades, equipment or pricing. As of late August 2026 the Corolla Cross is absent from Toyota's model-year 2027 product information, while the Corolla sedan, Corolla Hatchback, Prius, C-HR and Highlander are already listed. Every figure here is a confirmed 2026 number on a vehicle the industry expects to carry over essentially unchanged. We update this page the day Toyota publishes.

What's changing on the 2027 Toyota Corolla Cross?

Almost certainly nothing mechanical, and that follows directly from what happened a year earlier. The 2026 Corolla Cross took its mid-cycle refresh — new faces, new screens, a reworked console — so 2027 lands in the quiet stretch of the cycle where a nameplate coasts on a fresh package.

Industry outlooks published so far say the same thing in different words: a modest price increase, no other changes pencilled in, because the refresh already happened. Edmunds does not anticipate major changes either.

Practically, the specification below is the one to shop. The 2.0-liter Dynamic Force four stays at 169 horsepower on gas grades, the fifth-generation hybrid stays at 196 net horsepower with standard electronic all-wheel drive, and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 stays standard everywhere. If a 2027 and a leftover 2026 sit on the same lot this winter, the difference will be the sticker, not the car.

When is the 2027 Toyota Corolla Cross release date?

Release timing at a glance

  • Announced: not yet — Toyota has published no 2027 Corolla Cross grades, equipment or MSRP as of August 28, 2026.
  • Likely announcement: Toyota priced the 2026 in September 2025 and put it on sale that fall; a comparable cadence points to the coming weeks.
  • Expected arrival: late 2026 into early 2027 at New York dealerships.
  • Order of arrival: volume grades — gas LE and Hybrid SE — normally fill early allocation ahead of the XLE and Hybrid XSE.
  • Buying now: fully refreshed 2026 models are in stock today, with the same powertrains a 2027 is expected to carry.
  • What to do now: tell us the grade, drivetrain and color you want and we will flag the first matching allocation — no deposit, no obligation.

There is a reliable pattern worth knowing here. The weeks around a model-year changeover are frequently the strongest weeks to buy the outgoing car, because factory support on remaining stock often beats whatever launches next. Our lease specials and manufacturer incentives show exactly where that sits this month.

Will the 2027 Toyota Corolla Cross cost more?

Expect a small increase. Early outlooks anticipate a few hundred dollars over 2026, a mild move by current standards — the 2026 car itself went up $500 across the range when the refresh arrived, with destination at $1,450.

For reference, 2026 base MSRP runs from $24,635 for the front-drive gas L to $33,030 for the Hybrid XSE, excluding destination. All-wheel drive adds $1,300 on the gas L and LE and $1,450 on the XLE; every hybrid includes it. Even a few hundred higher, a base Corolla Cross still opens below most subcompact SUVs that offer no hybrid at all.

The gap that actually sets your payment is not the model year. It is gas versus hybrid, roughly $2,000 to $3,000 between comparably equipped grades — with all-wheel drive included on the hybrid side of that comparison.

Two comparisons matter more than the rest. The Hybrid S asks about $3,000 over a front-drive gas L and returns 15 more city mpg while adding all-wheel drive — a combination almost nothing else in the class offers at that money. And the Hybrid XSE sits $3,470 above the gas XLE while gaining 10 combined mpg and standard traction.

Gas or hybrid for a New York routine?

For most people reading this in the five boroughs the answer is hybrid, and the reason is arithmetic rather than enthusiasm. Hybrids do their best work below 40 mph, in traffic that stops and starts, with the engine off more often than it runs — a description of a Tuesday on Atlantic Avenue. The 46 mpg city rating is no laboratory curiosity: Edmunds recorded 45.6 mpg combined on its real-world route, which is rare, since plenty of hybrids come in under their sticker. The gas car's 169 horsepower needs a heavy right foot by comparison, with published testing putting gas grades at 8.4 to 9.6 seconds to 60 mph against 7.3 to 7.4 for the hybrid.

All-wheel drive is where the two split hardest. On gas grades it is a $1,300 option. On every hybrid it is standard and electric — a rear motor engages when the front wheels slip, with no driveshaft and no fuel-economy cost worth naming. Good winter tires still matter more than any drivetrain most of the time. But if your February includes an unplowed side street at six in the morning, the hybrid solves it without you thinking about it.

How the 2026 refresh changed the Corolla Cross

The reference point is 2026, when Toyota gave the Corolla Cross its mid-cycle overhaul four years after launch. Nothing under the hood moved. Everything you touch and look at did.

Outside, Toyota split the powertrains visually for the first time: a wide, rugged grille for the gas model and a compact, color-matched mesh for the hybrid. New 18-inch alloys arrived in dark gray on the XLE and black on the XSE, and Cavalry Blue joined the palette, with a Jet Black two-tone roof reserved for the SE and XSE.

Inside carries more daily weight. A 10.5-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen became available over the standard 8-inch unit, a 12.3-inch digital cluster joined the list on higher grades, and the console was reconfigured for more usable storage. A Portobello interior appeared, and the Cold Weather Package — heated front seats plus heated steering wheel — spread across the all-wheel-drive lineup. The SE Nightshade Edition did not return.

So shopping a 2027 rather than a used 2023 buys a bigger screen, a better console and a car whose bugs have had four model years to surface.

Inside: screens, seats and space that earns its keep

Every Corolla Cross arrives with an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a 7-inch digital cluster. On the XLE and Hybrid XSE the 10.5-inch screen becomes standard alongside the 12.3-inch cluster, with JBL audio available. The LE adds Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, alloys, rear USB-C, keyless entry and start, automatic climate and wireless charging. The XLE is where it stops feeling like a budget purchase: SofTex, a power driver's seat, heated fronts, dual-zone climate, parking sensors front and rear and an available power liftgate.

Space is the honest part. Front legroom is generous at 42.9 inches; the second row, at 32 inches, is fine for children and shorter adults and tight for a six-footer behind a six-footer. Cargo compensates: 24.0 cubic feet behind the second row on front-drive models and 46.9 folded, or 21.5 and 44.0 with all-wheel drive — a stroller and a Costco run, or a bike with the front wheel off.

Safety, warranty and what Toyota covers

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on every grade: Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, full-speed-range adaptive cruise, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist and automatic high beams. Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert arrives at the LE and Hybrid SE.

Coverage runs 36 months or 36,000 miles basic and 60 months or 60,000 miles on the powertrain, with hybrid components covered 8 years or 100,000 miles and the hybrid battery 10 years or 150,000 miles — worth weighing if the hybrid premium is what is holding you back. ToyotaCare covers scheduled maintenance for 2 years or 25,000 miles plus roadside assistance.

What the awards actually say

Good news first. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the 2025–26 Corolla Cross a Top Safety Pick in its autumn 2025 round of testing. Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com ranks it among the best subcompact SUVs on sale, and cars.com carries it on its American-Made Index, since final assembly happens in the United States. Toyota's resale performance matters here too, and not for bragging rights: resale sets lease residuals, which is how reputation becomes a lower monthly payment.

Now the caveat, because you will find it if you look. IIHS tightened its criteria for the 2026 award year, and the Corolla Cross scored Acceptable rather than Good in the updated moderate overlap front test — enough for the previous award, not the new one. IIHS said plainly it would have earned a 2026 Top Safety Pick but for that single result, having scored Good in the small overlap front and updated side tests. A narrow shortfall that caught a long list of well-regarded vehicles this year.

Why the Corolla Cross works on New York streets

Start with the tape measure, because nothing else matters if the vehicle does not fit your life. The Corolla Cross runs roughly 176 inches — about 14 feet 8 inches, and some seven inches shorter than a RAV4. That is the difference between taking the last spot on a residential block and driving past it, and garages across the boroughs price by size class, so a subcompact SUV sits in a cheaper bracket than a compact almost everywhere.

Then look down. Eight inches of ground clearance is not an off-road number, but it is the right number for a curb cut ground down to rebar, a plow-built snow ridge in January, or a garage ramp that eats front air dams for a living.

Then fuel. A hybrid rated at 46 mpg city, on regular 87-octane, with nothing to plug in, is close to the best real-world economics available to a New Yorker without deeded parking — efficiency without solving the charging problem, and all-wheel drive in the same package. Add parking sensors that earn their keep where spots come with eight inches of margin at each end, blind-spot monitoring for avenues where cyclists and double-parked vans share a lane, and the resale strength that matters in a market where people buy a car for one chapter of life and sell it when the chapter closes.

Cross-shopping inside Toyota? The 2027 Corolla sedan is the same bones without the height, the C-HR and bZ cover electric, and the RAV4 Hybrid, Crown Signia and Highlander step up in size from there.

Frequently asked questions

Has Toyota announced 2027 Corolla Cross pricing?
Not yet. As of August 28, 2026 the model does not appear in Toyota's model-year 2027 product information. Published outlooks expect a small increase over the 2026 range of $24,635 to $33,030 before the $1,450 destination charge. We update this page the day Toyota announces.
When will the 2027 Toyota Corolla Cross arrive at dealerships?
No date is confirmed. Toyota priced the 2026 in September 2025 and put it on sale that fall, so a similar cadence points to a late-2026 or early-2027 arrival in New York. Fully refreshed 2026 models are in stock now.
What changed on the Toyota Corolla Cross in the 2026 refresh?
Styling and technology, not mechanicals: separate front-end designs for gas and hybrid, an available 10.5-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch cluster, a reconfigured console, Cavalry Blue paint, a Portobello interior and new 18-inch wheels. Powertrains were untouched and the SE Nightshade Edition was discontinued.
Does the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid come with all-wheel drive?
Yes, on every hybrid grade. A dedicated rear electric motor replaces the driveshaft, so AWD is standard on the S, SE and XSE at no extra cost and no meaningful fuel-economy penalty. On gas grades it is a $1,300 option on the L and LE and $1,450 on the XLE.
What MPG does the Toyota Corolla SUV get?
For 2026, the front-drive gas model is EPA-rated at 31 city, 33 highway and 32 combined, the AWD gas model at 29, 31 and 30, and the hybrid — all-wheel drive as standard — at 46, 39 and 42. Edmunds recorded 45.6 mpg combined on its real-world route.
Which Corolla Cross grade makes the most sense for a New York driver?
For most people here, the Hybrid SE: blind-spot monitoring, alloys, standard all-wheel drive and 46 mpg city in exactly the stop-and-go conditions where a hybrid works best. On a tighter budget, the Hybrid S has the same powertrain and economy for about $1,300 less.
Does the Corolla Cross Hybrid need to be plugged in?
No. It charges its own battery through the engine and regenerative braking, so you refuel at any station on regular 87-octane — which matters when you park on the street or in a rented garage.
Corolla Cross, Corolla sedan or RAV4 — which fits a New Yorker better?
The sedan is cheapest to run and easiest to park but gives up the hatch and ride height. The Corolla Cross adds eight inches of clearance, a liftgate and up to 24 cubic feet of cargo while staying about seven inches shorter than a RAV4. Choose the RAV4 if you regularly carry adults in back, since the Corolla Cross second row is tight for taller passengers.
Can I reserve a 2027 Corolla Cross at Plaza Toyota before it arrives?
Yes. Tell us the grade, drivetrain and color you want and we will match you to the first arriving allocation, with no deposit and no obligation. Since 2027 details are unpublished, we confirm the specification with you before anything is committed.
I am not in Brooklyn. How do delivery and service work?
We deliver purchased vehicles free within 25 miles, covering all five boroughs and much of Nassau. Service pickup and drop-off runs across the whole NYC metro area, and our team works in more than fifteen languages.
What is Plaza Auto Mall, and why does it help a small-SUV shopper?
The family-owned group Plaza Toyota belongs to, on Nostrand Avenue since 1975. Five new-vehicle franchises — Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Kia and Acura — each with a certified pre-owned program, sit within a seven-minute walk, with over 1,000 vehicles in stock.
Do you sell used vehicles from brands other than the five you represent?
Yes. Our multibrand used operation covers makes we do not sell new, so a used Mazda CX-30, Subaru Crosstrek or Volkswagen Taos can sit on the same block as a certified Corolla Cross. Browse the full group used inventory to see what is on the ground today.
