2027 Toyota Grand Highlander: Trims, Release Date and Pricing for New York Families

For 2027 the regular Highlander becomes an electric vehicle, which quietly leaves the Grand Highlander as the three-row Toyota you can still fill with gas. For a family weighing a second car against one vehicle that does everything, that matters more than any new paint color.

Where the 2027 information stands. Toyota had not published 2027 grades or pricing as of this update, so every figure below is the current 2026 specification on a carryover vehicle. The 2026 lineup was announced July 31, 2025, which puts a 2027 announcement due at any point. We refresh this page the day the numbers land.

What's changing on the 2027 Toyota Grand Highlander?

By every account, very little on the vehicle itself. Reviews published through mid-2026 describe the 2027 Grand Highlander as a carryover: three powertrains, a 116.1-inch wheelbase, 97.5 cubic feet of maximum cargo room, and the same LE, XLE, Limited, Nightshade and Platinum structure. Industry reporting has been livelier than the spec sheet — Automotive News pointed to a mid-cycle freshening tied to added capacity at Toyota's Indiana plant, though more recent reviews suggest it slips past 2027. Treat a restyle as unconfirmed until Toyota says otherwise.

The real change happens next door. The 2027 Highlander is an all-new battery-electric SUV, which leaves the Grand Highlander as the three-row Toyota that takes six minutes at a pump instead of a charging plan. For anyone parked on the street or in a rented garage, that is not a small distinction.

When is the 2027 Toyota Grand Highlander release date?

Release timing at a glance

  • Announced: not yet — grades, equipment and pricing were still unpublished as this page went up.
  • Precedent: the 2026 model was announced July 31, 2025 and reached dealerships that fall.
  • Expected arrival: fall 2026 into early 2027, following the same rhythm as the past three model years.
  • Order of arrival: volume grades — XLE and Hybrid XLE — fill allocation first; Hybrid MAX Platinum builds run thinner.
  • Still buying today: 2026 cars are in stock now, and the outgoing year is often where factory support sits.
  • What to do now: tell us grade, powertrain, seating count and color, and we will flag the first matching allocation — no deposit, no obligation.

One pattern holds across every nameplate: the weeks around a changeover are often the best weeks to buy the outgoing car, because factory support on remaining stock frequently beats what launches next. Our lease specials and manufacturer incentives show where that stands today.

Will the 2027 Toyota Grand Highlander cost more?

Almost certainly, by a predictable amount. Every 2026 grade took a $500 increase over its 2025 equivalent, and independent estimates for 2027 sit near $1,000 per grade — moving the gas LE from $41,360 to roughly $42,400 before the $1,495 destination charge, and the Hybrid MAX Platinum from $59,275 toward $60,300.

Weigh that against what it replaces. Families in this segment often run two cars because the third row they own is one nobody over twelve will sit in. This one has 33.5 inches of legroom — five more than the standard Highlander — and 20.6 cubic feet behind it, so a stroller and a week of groceries fit with every seat full. A $1,000 adjustment is smaller than two months of insurance and parking on a second car here.

Two lines deserve a second look. The Hybrid XLE asks $1,750 more than the gas XLE and returns twelve more combined mpg — the widest value gap in the range, and the grade we order most for New York buyers. At the other end, Hybrid MAX Limited costs $2,980 above the standard Hybrid Limited, trading seven combined mpg for 117 more horsepower and 1,500 more pounds of towing.

Gas, Hybrid or Hybrid MAX for a New York routine?

Hybrids do their best work exactly where this city keeps you: below 40 mph, in traffic that stops more than it moves. The standard Hybrid is rated 36 or 37 mpg in the city against 20 or 21 for the gas engine — roughly 15 mpg in the driving that fills most of a week here, on a three-row SUV weighing over two tons. That is the whole argument.

All-wheel drive is the second question. On hybrids it comes from a rear electric motor rather than a driveshaft, so the penalty is two combined mpg and the cargo floor stays flat; it is standard on Hybrid LE, Limited and Nightshade. Gas grades use a mechanical Dynamic Torque Control system, a $1,600 option below Platinum. Good tires matter more than any drivetrain, but if your winter includes an unplowed side street before the salt truck, standard AWD on the Hybrid LE earns the twelve hundred it sits above the gas LE.

Hybrid MAX suits a narrower set of driveways: 5,000 pounds of towing like the gas engine, 27 combined mpg, and quicker than anyone expects from a family SUV. If you tow a boat out to Long Island and still want the hybrid badge, it is the only version that does both.

Inside: three rows that all work, and the storage between them

Every grade arrives with a 12.3-inch touchscreen running Toyota Audio Multimedia, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, tri-zone climate control and a power liftgate. Lower grades pair analog gauges with a 7-inch display; Limited and above add a 12.3-inch digital cluster and 11-speaker JBL audio. Platinum adds a head-up display and the camera rearview mirror, more useful than it sounds once the third row is full and the cargo area is stacked to the headrests.

Seating splits eight or seven. The LE seats eight on a bench; every grade above offers captain's chairs with a removable console, turning the middle row into a walk-through so row three is reachable without folding anything. Upholstery runs cloth, then SofTex, leather, and leather with Ultrasuede on the Platinum.

Then the details that decide daily life with children: a Qi wireless pad from the XLE up, USB-C ports for the second and third rows, standard rear window shades from the XLE, heated outboard second-row seats on the Limited and ventilated ones on the Platinum. The charging ports end the argument over whose phone gets the cable somewhere around the Verrazzano.

How it compares with the last update

The Grand Highlander has never had a full restyle — it arrived as a 2024 model, so the reference point is what has changed since launch. For 2025 Toyota added the LE beneath the XLE, dropping the entry price roughly $2,500 so three-row Toyota ownership started with a four rather than a five; the same year brought the Hybrid Nightshade, the removable second-row console and Heavy Metal paint. For 2026, only the price moved, by $500 per grade. For 2027, reporting points to another carryover.

Read that as a compliment. A 2027 car is the fourth year of a design whose problems have surfaced and been sorted, off a line running since August 2023 in Princeton, Indiana — which also put it on the Cars.com American-Made Index for 2026.

Safety, warranty and what the awards actually say

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on every grade — Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, full-speed adaptive cruise, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist and Proactive Driving Assist — with Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. Limited adds parking sensors with automatic braking; Platinum adds the 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor and Traffic Jam Assist. Warranty is 36 months or 36,000 miles basic, 60 months or 60,000 miles powertrain, with ToyotaCare maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles.

On the praise: a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from NHTSA and a place inside Kelley Blue Book's ranking of the best three-row SUVs, where editors single out cabin space, ride quality and resale value. KBB.com has repeatedly named Toyota the best resale value brand overall — an award that shows up on your statement rather than a wall, since resale sets lease residuals and therefore payments. Sales agree: volume rose 18 percent through the first half of 2025, comfortably past the standard Highlander.

One honest caveat, because you will find it if you look. The Grand Highlander does not hold an IIHS Top Safety Pick. It earns Good ratings in the updated moderate overlap front test and in front crash prevention, but Acceptable results in the driver-side small overlap test and for headlights keep it off the 2026 list. IIHS notes many manufacturers fell short under this year's tighter criteria — the Highlander, 4Runner, Land Cruiser and Sequoia missed as well.

Why the Grand Highlander works for New York drivers

Start with the honest part: this is a big vehicle. At 201.4 inches long and 78.3 wide it will not fit every attended garage in Manhattan, and some older elevators and low-clearance ramps rule it out. Measure before you commit — and if you park tight, the 360-degree camera stops being a luxury.

Now the case for it. Families here buy three rows because the alternative is two cars — two insurance policies, two registrations, two parking arrangements, two inspections. This third row is usable by adults, so seven or eight seats are seats rather than a claim, and 20.6 cubic feet behind row three means the trunk survives a full car. Fold everything and you have 97.5.

Then the specifics that register after a winter here. Eight inches of ground clearance covers the potholes and the curbside snow shelf that eats bumpers every February, blind spot monitoring earns its keep where cyclists and double-parked vans share one lane, and the hybrid's 36 mpg comes on regular fuel with no plug and no charging app — the difference between an electrified car you can own in a walk-up and one you cannot.

Shopping the neighbors? The standard Highlander parks easier with a tighter third row, the RAV4 Hybrid covers two rows for less, the 4Runner trades cargo shape for capability, and our 2027 Camry and 2027 Corolla guides pick up from there.

Cross-shop the whole segment without moving your car

Plaza Toyota is part of Plaza Auto Mall, family-owned on Nostrand Avenue since 1975: five new-vehicle brands, a certified pre-owned program for each, and a multibrand used operation covering makes we do not sell new — over 1,000 vehicles in stock, within a seven-minute walk.

For a three-row shopper that geography is the point, because nobody should buy this segment from a spec sheet. Sit in a Grand Highlander's third row, then walk to the Kia Telluride, the Hyundai Palisade and the Honda Pilot the same afternoon — one appointment, one trip, one argument with your children about legroom. Wondering whether sliding doors solve your parking problem? The Honda Odyssey and Kia Carnival are a few doors down. Sizing back? The Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe shrink the footprint, and Acura of Brooklyn is on the block for anything more premium.

Frequently asked questions

Has Toyota announced 2027 Grand Highlander pricing?
Not as of this update — every price here is the 2026 figure. Toyota announced the 2026 lineup on July 31, 2025, so a 2027 announcement is due; independent estimates point to roughly $1,000 per grade above 2026.
When does the 2027 Grand Highlander arrive at dealerships?
Fall 2026 into early 2027, following the last three model years. The 2026 cars began arriving in fall 2025. Tell us the configuration you want and we will flag the first matching allocation.
Is the 2027 Grand Highlander getting a redesign?
Not by current reporting. Automotive News previously indicated a mid-cycle refresh tied to added capacity at the Indiana plant, but reviews through mid-2026 describe 2027 as a carryover.
What is the difference between the Highlander and the Grand Highlander for 2027?
A large one now. The 2027 Highlander is an all-new battery-electric SUV, while the Grand Highlander keeps gas, Hybrid and Hybrid MAX powertrains. It is also longer, with about five more inches of third-row legroom and far more cargo room behind row three.
Which Grand Highlander grade makes the most sense in New York City?
For most families, the Hybrid XLE. It leads the range at 37 mpg city with front drive, adds SofTex, heated front seats, wireless charging, Digital Key and second-row shades, and costs $1,750 more than the gas XLE. All-wheel drive adds $1,600 and two combined mpg.
Does the Grand Highlander Hybrid need to be plugged in?
No. It charges its own battery through the engine and regenerative braking, so you refuel at any station on regular fuel — practical for New Yorkers without deeded parking or home charging.
How much can a Grand Highlander tow?
Up to 5,000 pounds with the gas 2.4-liter turbo or the Hybrid MAX, properly equipped. The standard 2.5-liter hybrid is rated 3,500 pounds. The factory hitch ships with a four-pin harness, so trailer brake wiring needs an upgrade.
Will a Grand Highlander fit in a New York City garage?
Often, but measure first. It is 201.4 inches long, 78.3 wide and 72.1 tall, which rules out some older attended garages, low-clearance ramps and car elevators. Bring us your garage's posted limits and we will tell you straight.
Can I reserve a 2027 Grand Highlander at Plaza Toyota before it arrives?
Yes. Tell us the grade, powertrain, seating layout and color you want and we will match you to the first arriving allocation, with no deposit and no obligation. Hybrid and Hybrid MAX builds are the ones worth reserving early.
I am not in Brooklyn. How do delivery and service work?
We deliver purchased vehicles free within 25 miles, covering all five boroughs and much of Nassau. Service pickup and drop-off runs across the whole NYC metro area, so a car bought here never has to come back for routine maintenance. Our team works in fifteen-plus languages.
What is Plaza Auto Mall, and why does it matter to a three-row shopper?
The family-owned group Plaza Toyota belongs to, on Nostrand Avenue since 1975. Five new-vehicle franchises — Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Kia and Acura — each with a certified pre-owned program, sit within a seven-minute walk, with over 1,000 vehicles in stock.
Do you sell used cars from brands other than the five you represent?
Yes. Our multibrand used operation covers makes we do not sell new, so a used Pilot, Atlas or Ascent sits on the same block as a certified Grand Highlander. Browse the full group used inventory to see what is in stock today.
