2027 Toyota Land Cruiser: What's New, Release Date and Pricing for New York Drivers

For 2027 the Land Cruiser does something unusual for a nameplate this famous: the cheaper grade costs a little more, the expensive one costs nearly a thousand dollars less, and both are on the ground now rather than arriving next spring.

Where the 2027 numbers come from. Toyota published full 2027 equipment and pricing on April 7, 2026, and the trucks reached dealerships that spring, so this page is confirmed rather than expected. Fuel economy is the EPA rating on an unchanged powertrain. Package pricing varies by build — ask us for the window sticker on any specific unit.

What's changing on the 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser?

Three things, and none of them touch the mechanicals. The turbocharged 2.4-liter i-FORCE MAX hybrid still makes 326 net combined horsepower and 465 lb-ft through an 8-speed automatic and full-time four-wheel drive, and still tows 6,000 pounds. What changed for 2027 is the option sheet.

First, a High Mounted Air Intake is now available on both grades — a factory snorkel that raises the engine's breathing point, which matters for water crossings and dusty dirt roads. Second, the Premium Package adds heated and ventilated second-row outboard seats, the kind of change that sounds trivial until you have adults or car seats behind you in February. Third, a new black paint called Inked joins the palette.

The 2027 color list runs to seven: Ice Cap, Wind Chill Pearl, Underground, Inked, Meteor Shower, Trail Dust and Heritage Blue. The last two can be ordered two-tone with a Grayscape roof.

When is the 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser release date?

Release timing at a glance

  • Announced: April 7, 2026, with grades, equipment and MSRP published together.
  • On sale: spring 2026 — the 2027 Land Cruiser is already here, not a future model year.
  • What that means: no waiting list, no deposit game — you can drive one this week.
  • Allocation: volume is deliberately limited, and specific color-and-package builds move quickly.
  • Next milestone: none announced. Toyota has not signaled a refresh, so the 2028 truck is expected to carry over.
  • If we lack your build: tell us grade, color and package and we will flag the first matching allocation, no deposit.

One note for anyone following the nameplate globally: Toyota launched a smaller Land Cruiser FJ in Japan in May 2026, and American interest has been loud. Toyota has said there are no plans to bring it here. For now, the 250 Series on this page is the Land Cruiser you can buy in the States.

Will the 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser cost more?

It depends which one you want. The Land Cruiser 1958 opens at $57,880, up $280 from 2026. The uplevel Land Cruiser goes the other way at $62,725, or $950 less than the 2026 version asked. Both exclude Toyota's $1,450 processing and handling fee, making the real starting points $59,330 and $64,175 before tax, title and registration.

A price cut on the better-equipped trim is rare, and it narrows the gap between grades to $4,845 — worth weighing, because the Land Cruiser grade is where the 12.3-inch screens, the power liftgate and the trail hardware live.

Every 2027 Land Cruiser trim, compared

Two grades, one powertrain, one drivetrain. That simplicity is part of the appeal: no engine decision to agonize over, no rear-drive version to regret in January.

The honest read: unless you want the round headlights and stripped-down character of the 1958 — and plenty of people do — the Land Cruiser grade is the better value at 2027 prices, because its screens, ventilated seats and Multi-Terrain Monitor cannot be added to a 1958 at any price.

How it compares with the last Land Cruiser

The reference point matters, because the change was not a restyle but a reset. The last Land Cruiser sold here before this one was the 200 Series, which ended after 2021 with a 5.7-liter V8 making 381 horsepower, a 14-mpg combined rating and an $85,665 starting price. It seated eight, weighed 5,815 pounds and towed 8,100.

Its replacement went a different direction on purpose. The 250 Series is an inch and a half longer at 196.4 inches but roughly 800 pounds lighter, seats five, tows 6,000 pounds, returns 23 mpg combined instead of 14, and starts almost $28,000 lower. Toyota traded displacement and third-row space for efficiency and a price a normal household can reach.

Now: the 250 Series, hybrid, five seats, 23 mpg combined, $57,880 to start.

What survived is the part enthusiasts care about. Full-time four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case, a locking center differential and a locking rear differential are standard on both grades, exactly as on the V8, and CRAWL Control carries over. The frame is still boxed steel, now the TNGA-F platform shared with Tundra, Sequoia, Tacoma and 4Runner. What you give up: two rows instead of three, 2,100 pounds less towing, and a four-cylinder that sounds like one when you ask it for everything. Edmunds measured 8.3 seconds to 60 mph — respectable for 5,500 pounds, not quick.

Inside the 2027 Land Cruiser

Both grades run Toyota Audio Multimedia with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 1958 gets an 8-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch cluster and six speakers; the Land Cruiser grade steps to a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a matching cluster and ten speakers. Physical knobs survive for volume and climate, which not every 2027 SUV can claim.

Seating follows the same logic. The 1958 uses heated fabric, the right call for a truck that will see wet dogs and beach sand. The Land Cruiser grade moves to power SofTex with heating and ventilation, and the Premium Package brings leather, driver memory and the new heated and ventilated second-row seats.

Charging is well sorted: five USB-C ports on the 1958, a higher-output Qi pad with the Land Cruiser grade, and a 2400-watt AC inverter in the cargo area on both — effectively a household outlet in your truck.

Cargo is 46.2 cubic feet behind the second row and 82.1 with it folded. The floor sits high because the hybrid battery lives under it, worth checking in person if you load heavy things often. The squared roofline makes that space genuinely square, which beats a bigger number in a tapered crossover.

Safety, warranty and what Toyota covers

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on both grades: Pre-Collision System with pedestrian, cyclist and motorcyclist detection, full-speed-range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beams and Proactive Driving Assist. Lane Tracing Assist now includes an Emergency Driving Stop System that halts the truck if the driver stops responding to alerts. Blind Spot Monitor is standard and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert available — both earn their keep backing into traffic that is not slowing down for you.

Coverage runs 36 months or 36,000 miles basic and 60 months or 60,000 miles on the powertrain. The hybrid system is covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles and the hybrid battery for 10 years or 150,000 miles, both transferable to the next owner. ToyotaCare handles scheduled maintenance for the first year or 10,000 miles and adds two years of roadside assistance.

What the awards actually say

Cars.com named the Land Cruiser its Best SUV of 2025, citing capability, roominess and comfort — specifically the standard locking differentials, CRAWL Control and two-speed transfer case most rivals reserve for a top trim. It also took a 2025 U.S. ALG Residual Value Award from J.D. Power in the off-road utility category and Best 4x4 and Pick-Up at the Women's Worldwide Car of the Year awards.

The residual award is the one that shows up on your monthly statement. Strong projected resale sets lease residual values, and higher residuals mean lower payments on the same truck — Kelley Blue Book has also named Toyota its Best Resale Value brand.

The fair counterpoint: real-world fuel economy is the most common owner complaint. CarGurus averaged 15.7 mpg in testing, well under the 23-mpg EPA combined rating, with hard highway driving opening the gap widest. City work closes it considerably, which happens to be what most of our customers do.

Why the Land Cruiser works for New York drivers

Start with the drivetrain, because it behaves differently here than the spec sheet suggests. Full-time four-wheel drive means there is nothing to engage — no button to remember at 6 a.m. when the ramp to the Belt is glazed over. The center differential locks when you want it and stays open when you do not, so it works on wet pavement, not just snow, unlike part-time systems you are not supposed to run on dry road.

Then ride quality, which nobody shops for and everybody notices. A boxed ladder frame, rear coil springs and tall sidewalls take the seams on the BQE far more softly than a crossover on low-profile tires, and 8.7 inches of ground clearance turns the flooded underpass on your commute into a non-event.

The hybrid matters more in traffic than on a highway. The electric motor sits between the engine and transmission and does the low-speed work — exactly the speed range you live in between Flatbush and the bridge. You never plug it in, so a parking spot with no outlet is not a problem.

Two more advantages. The inverter turns the cargo area into a power source during outages, which is not theoretical after the last few storm seasons. And at 196.4 inches this is shorter than a Sequoia or a Suburban, so it fits garages and street spots that defeat a full-size SUV — check your garage against its 75.7-inch height first, since that is what catches people out.

Cross-shopping the showroom? The 4Runner shares the platform and the hybrid option for less, the Highlander and Grand Highlander trade trail hardware for a third row, and the RAV4 Hybrid handles the same weather on half the fuel. Going electric? Our Highlander EV guide picks up from there.

Plaza Toyota is part of Plaza Auto Mall, family-owned on Nostrand Avenue since 1975: five new-vehicle brands, a certified pre-owned program for each, and a multibrand used operation covering makes we do not sell new — over 1,000 vehicles in stock, all within a seven-minute walk.

For a body-on-frame shopper that geography does real work. Drive a Land Cruiser, then walk to the Kia Telluride and the Hyundai Palisade the same afternoon, if three rows turn out to matter more than a locking rear differential. Want capability with less bulk? The Honda Passport and Pilot are a short walk, and Acura of Brooklyn shares the block. One appointment, no highway between test drives.

Arrive with the numbers settled. Our pre-approval asks for no Social Security number and no date of birth, and returns a real payment range before anyone touches your credit.

Then stack what is available: lease specials update monthly and often combine with factory incentives. An early trade appraisal often covers the step from a 1958 to the Land Cruiser grade by itself, and we buy cars whether or not you buy ours.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser cost?
The Land Cruiser 1958 starts at $57,880 and the Land Cruiser grade at $62,725, both before Toyota's $1,450 processing and handling fee — $59,330 and $64,175 all in, before tax, title and registration. The 1958 rose $280 over 2026 while the Land Cruiser grade dropped $950.
Is the 2027 Land Cruiser available now?
Yes. Toyota announced it on April 7, 2026 and it reached dealerships that spring, so it is on the ground rather than on order. Specific color and package combinations move quickly, since allocation is limited by design.
What is new on the 2027 Land Cruiser compared with 2026?
Three additions: an available High Mounted Air Intake, heated and ventilated second-row outboard seats in the Premium Package, and a new black paint called Inked. Powertrain, drivetrain, frame and dimensions carry over unchanged.
What fuel economy does the 2027 Land Cruiser get?
EPA-estimated 22 city, 25 highway and 23 combined on both grades — strong for a body-on-frame SUV with locking differentials. Owners driving hard on the highway commonly report mid-to-high teens; city driving lands much closer, because the hybrid handles low-speed work.
Does the Land Cruiser hybrid need to be plugged in?
No. The i-FORCE MAX system charges its own battery through the engine and regenerative braking, so you refuel at any gas station — which matters without deeded parking or a home charger.
Which grade should I choose, the 1958 or the Land Cruiser?
Both share the same 326-hp hybrid, full-time 4WD, locking differentials and CRAWL Control, so capability is not the deciding factor. The 1958 gives you round headlights, heated fabric seats and a simpler cabin for $4,845 less. The Land Cruiser grade adds 12.3-inch screens, ventilated SofTex seats, a power liftgate, Multi-Terrain Select and Multi-Terrain Monitor — none available on a 1958.
Does the 2027 Land Cruiser have a third row?
No. It is a five-seat, two-row SUV with 46.2 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 82.1 with them folded. For three rows on a body-on-frame platform, look at the Toyota Sequoia.
Can I get a Land Cruiser serviced without driving to Brooklyn?
Yes. Service pickup and drop-off covers the whole NYC metro area, and purchased vehicles are delivered free within 25 miles — all five boroughs and much of Nassau.
What is Plaza Auto Mall, and why does it matter to an SUV shopper?
The family-owned group Plaza Toyota belongs to, on Nostrand Avenue since 1975. Five new-vehicle franchises — Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Kia and Acura — each with a certified pre-owned program, sit within a seven-minute walk, with over 1,000 vehicles in stock. Compare a Land Cruiser against a Telluride, a Palisade and a Pilot without moving your car.
Do you sell used vehicles from brands other than the five you represent?
Yes. Our multibrand used operation covers makes we do not sell new, so a used Wrangler or Bronco sits on the same block as a certified Land Cruiser. Browse the full group used inventory to see what is available today.
