The RAV4 outsells every other SUV in America and, counted globally, every other vehicle of any kind. Toyota rebuilt it from the floor up for 2026 and made every version a hybrid. Which leaves one question heading into 2027: is there any reason to wait?

Where the 2027 information stands. Toyota has not yet published 2027 RAV4 grades, equipment or pricing. Every figure below is the confirmed 2026 specification on a vehicle redesigned last year, and industry previews describe 2027 as a carryover. We update this page the day the order guide lands.

What's changing on the 2027 Toyota RAV4?

By every credible account, very little. The sixth-generation car landed for 2026 with new sheet metal, a new cabin, new software and a lineup that dropped gasoline engines entirely. Automakers do not follow that twelve months later.

So the 2027 car should carry over the 2.5-liter hybrid — 226 horsepower with front-wheel drive, 236 with all-wheel drive — plus the 324-horsepower plug-in. Safety Sense 4.0, a 12.3-inch cluster, a 10.5-inch touchscreen and wireless CarPlay and Android Auto stay standard, with a 12.9-inch screen higher up.

Two smaller things are worth watching. Industry reporting points to extra off-road drive modes in the hybrid lineup, and the plug-in, once limited to certain states, now reaches all fifty. Neither is confirmed for 2027.

When is the 2027 Toyota RAV4 release date?

Release timing at a glance

  • Announced: not yet — no 2027 grades or pricing as of early September 2026.
  • Expected arrival: late 2026, in line with a normal model-year changeover.
  • Supply outlook: better than 2026. Toyota added RAV4 Hybrid production in Georgetown, Kentucky in June — a fourth plant alongside Japan and two Ontario lines.
  • Order of arrival: LE, XLE Premium and SE fill allocation first; Woodland and GR SPORT arrive in smaller numbers.
  • What to do now: tell us the grade, drivetrain and color you want and we will flag the first matching allocation.

There is a reason to look hard at the 2026 car meanwhile: factory support on an outgoing model year often beats what launches next. Our lease specials refresh monthly and the manufacturer incentives page shows what is live today.

Will the 2027 Toyota RAV4 cost more?

Almost certainly, though not by much. Carryover years typically add one to two percent, which would put a 2027 LE near $32,500 before destination against the 2026 car's $31,900. Add the $1,450 destination charge and the entry point lands in the mid thirties.

The redesign broke the usual pattern. The 2026 Hybrid LE opened at $33,350 with destination, roughly $950 below the 2025 hybrid it replaced, and the plug-in dropped more than $3,300 while gaining power and range. A modest step up for 2027 still leaves it cheaper in real terms than two years ago.

The number that actually moves your payment is availability. The RAV4 turned over at nearly 98 percent in May — almost every unit spoken for before it reached a lot — and some markets saw markups as a result. Kentucky production is the fix, and it is already flowing.

Two lines deserve a second read. All-wheel drive costs $1,400 on the LE, SE and XLE Premium and gives up one combined mpg on the first two, a small penalty for winter traction. And the cheapest plug-in undercuts the XSE hybrid by more than a thousand dollars while carrying 52 miles of electric range, which reorders the usual assumption about plug-ins.

Hybrid or plug-in hybrid for a New York routine?

Hybrids do their best work below 40 mph in traffic that keeps stopping, which describes most driving here — which is why the RAV4 posts 47 mpg in the city and 40 on the highway rather than the reverse.

The plug-in is the more interesting proposition and the more demanding one. Fifty-two miles of electric range covers a commute, a school run and a grocery trip without the engine starting, then drives to Rockland on gasoline. The catch is charging: park on the street and you are running it as an ordinary hybrid most weeks; have a driveway, a garage outlet or a charger at work and the math flips hard in its favor.

Cargo, roof rails and the weekend question

Roughly 37.8 cubic feet sits behind the rear seats and about 70 with them folded — a flat-pack bookcase, a stroller and a week of groceries at once, loaded through a hands-free liftgate on the trims that offer one.

Towing runs to 3,500 pounds on most all-wheel-drive configurations; front-drive models and the LE AWD are rated at 1,750. The Woodland adds roof rails with crossbars and a factory hitch receiver, which spares you the aftermarket rack bill.

Inside: screens, seats and materials

The cabin is where the redesign shows most. Toyota kept physical climate controls, which ages well when you are adjusting the fan with gloves on, and put the touchscreen high on a tiered dash. The newer Arene software wakes noticeably faster than the system it replaced.

Seating splits at the XLE Premium: cloth below, SofTex synthetic leather with a power, heated driver's seat above. Rear seat heating arrives higher still, and is the feature nobody shops for and everybody uses in January.

The Limited brings nine-speaker JBL audio, a panoramic roof and a 1,500-watt cargo outlet that powers a job site or a block party.

The city tech that earns its keep

Two features justify themselves faster here than anywhere else. The available panoramic view monitor gives a top-down picture of everything within inches of the vehicle, which is the difference between taking a tight spot and circling the block again. And Drive Recorder, standard on every grade, uses the exterior cameras to capture clips of driving events — the feature you are grateful for exactly once, expensively, after a low-speed scrape.

How this RAV4 compares with the one it replaced

The fifth-generation RAV4 ran from 2019 through 2025, so the honest comparison is against a car many New Yorkers still drive, and the gaps are wide. The old gas-only LE returned about 35 mpg combined; today's hybrid LE returns 43. The previous hybrid made 219 horsepower and rated 41 mpg city; this one makes 226 or 236 and rates 47. The plug-in went from 302 horsepower and 42 electric miles to 324 and 52, while getting cheaper, and Safety Sense stepped from 2.5 to 4.0.

What you give up is the gasoline-only engine, which no longer exists here. Cross-shopping the previous generation used? Our certified pre-owned inventory is where those cars land.

What the awards actually say

Kelley Blue Book named the RAV4 its Best Compact SUV in the 2026 Best Buy Awards, citing more power for the money, better fuel economy and the strongest resale value in the class. Toyota took four wins that year — RAV4, Camry, Tacoma and Sienna — the most of any manufacturer.

Resale value is the award that shows up on your statement rather than your wall: residuals set lease payments, so a car that holds value leases cheaper before you negotiate.

One straight caveat: the RAV4 does not hold a 2026 IIHS Top Safety Pick. Cars.com reported that no Toyota SUV earned one after the institute tightened its criteria, and models from several brands came up short the same way. Safety Sense 4.0 is standard regardless.

Why the RAV4 works on New York streets

Start with the footprint. This is still a compact SUV, narrow enough for a standard garage bay and short enough for the spots that open mid-block, and garage rentals across the boroughs price by size. Then fuel: 47 mpg in city driving on regular 87-octane, where the average trip involves more idling than moving, is close to the best economics available with this much room. No plug, no charging plan, no range math before a run to Poughkeepsie.

Then the conditions. All-wheel drive costs $1,400 and one combined mpg on the LE and SE, which makes an unplowed side street at six in the morning a non-event, and ground clearance handles the potholes that follow every thaw.

Inside the brand, the Corolla Cross is a size down, the Highlander and Grand Highlander add a third row, the 4Runner trades efficiency for off-road hardware, and the bZ, C-HR and Crown Signia take it from there.

Frequently asked questions

Has Toyota announced 2027 RAV4 pricing?
Not yet. As of early September 2026 Toyota has published no 2027 grades or pricing. The 2026 hybrid opens at $31,900 before the $1,450 destination charge, and carryover years typically add one to two percent.
When does the 2027 Toyota RAV4 arrive at dealerships?
Late 2026 is the expectation. Supply should be healthier than during the 2026 launch, since Toyota added RAV4 Hybrid production in Georgetown, Kentucky in June.
Is the 2027 RAV4 available with a gasoline-only engine?
No. Toyota dropped the non-hybrid RAV4 with the 2026 redesign and nothing suggests it returns. Every version is a hybrid or plug-in, which is why entry-level economy jumped from about 35 mpg combined to 43.
How far can the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid go on electricity alone?
Up to 52 miles on the SE and XSE, 49 on the Woodland, about 48 on the GR SPORT. The Woodland and XSE add DC fast charging, roughly 30 minutes from 10 to 80 percent; the SE and GR SPORT use Level 1 or Level 2.
Which RAV4 grade makes the most sense for city driving?
For most New York drivers, the LE or XLE Premium with front-wheel drive: 47 mpg city, 43 combined, with smaller wheels that ride better over broken pavement. Add all-wheel drive for $1,400 if winter parking means an unplowed street.
Does the standard RAV4 Hybrid need to be plugged in?
No. It charges its own battery through the engine and regenerative braking, so you refuel at any station on regular 87-octane — the practical choice for anyone parking on the street or in a garage without an outlet.
How much fuel economy does all-wheel drive cost?
One combined mpg on the LE and SE (43 front-drive, 42 all-wheel) and two on the XLE Premium. It is standard on the Woodland, XSE, Limited and every plug-in grade.
Can I reserve a 2027 RAV4 at Plaza Toyota before it arrives?
Yes. Tell us the grade, drivetrain and color you want and we will match you to the first arriving allocation, no deposit and no obligation. Worth doing early on the Woodland and GR SPORT.
I am not in Brooklyn. How do delivery and service work?
We deliver purchased vehicles free within 25 miles, covering all five boroughs and much of Nassau and southern Westchester. Service pickup and drop-off runs across the whole NYC metro area, and our team works in fifteen-plus languages.
What is Plaza Auto Mall, and why does it matter to an SUV shopper?
The family-owned group Plaza Toyota belongs to, on Nostrand Avenue since 1975. Five new-vehicle franchises — Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Kia and Acura — each with a certified pre-owned program, sit within a seven-minute walk, with over 1,000 vehicles in stock.
Do you sell used cars from brands other than the five you represent?
Yes. Our multibrand used operation covers makes we do not sell new, so a used CX-5, Rogue or Tiguan sits beside a certified RAV4. Browse the full group used inventory to see what is in stock today.
