2027 Toyota Sequoia Trailhunter and TRD Pro: What's New, Release Date and Pricing for New York Drivers

Toyota just did something it has never done with its largest SUV: it put overlanding hardware on the cheapest Sequoia you can buy. The 2027 Trailhunter package and the retuned TRD Pro arrive alongside a 14-inch screen that is now standard on every grade — and for New York buyers, one of those three changes matters far more than the other two.

Where the 2027 information stands. Toyota announced the 2027 Sequoia on July 23, 2026 and updated the release on July 28. Equipment, the Trailhunter package contents and the TRD Pro changes are confirmed. Full specifications and pricing have not been published — Toyota says those come closer to the start of production in fall 2026. Fuel economy and towing figures below are 2026 EPA and manufacturer ratings on a carryover powertrain.

What's changing on the 2027 Toyota Sequoia?

Three things, and none of them is under the hood. The i-FORCE MAX twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6 hybrid carries over unchanged at 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque, still paired to a 10-speed automatic, still body-on-frame and still sharing its bones with the Tundra.

First, the Trailhunter package — and the important detail is in the word "package." This is not a new trim. Toyota built it on the entry-level SR5, which means real off-road hardware without climbing the ladder past Limited, Platinum and 1794 Edition first.

Second, the TRD Pro gets newly designed, Sequoia-tuned FOX enhanced QS3 shocks that are adjustable, plus standard red tow hooks and a Honeycomb paint color that TRD keeps exclusive across the Toyota lineup. Third, the whole lineup moves to Toyota's latest multimedia system with a 14-inch screen standard, replacing the 8-inch unit base grades used to live with.

The exterior was reworked too: a horizontal front-end architecture from Toyota's CALTY studio, a more prominent grille, rectangular fog lights set into the bumper, a brighter grille-mounted LED light bar and available RIGID fog lights.

When is the 2027 Toyota Sequoia release date?

Release timing at a glance

  • Announced: yes — July 23, 2026, updated July 28.
  • Confirmed now: grades, Trailhunter package contents, TRD Pro hardware, multimedia, safety and warranty.
  • Full specs and pricing: closer to the start of production in fall 2026.
  • Showroom timing: no firm on-sale date published. A fall 2026 production start points to first deliveries late in the year and into early 2027.
  • Order of arrival: SR5 and Limited typically fill allocation first; TRD Pro and Trailhunter builds arrive in smaller numbers.
  • What to do now: tell us the grade, drivetrain, package and color and we will flag the first matching allocation. No deposit, no obligation.

One pattern repeats every model year: the weeks after a new one is announced are often the strongest weeks to buy the outgoing car, because factory support on remaining stock frequently beats what launches next. The 2026 Sequoia is on the ground today — our lease specials and manufacturer incentives show where that stands this month.

Will the 2027 Toyota Sequoia cost more?

Almost certainly, though Toyota has not said by how much. Industry outlets covering the July announcement have suggested one to three percent over 2026 — roughly $650 to $2,500 depending on where you sit in the lineup. Treat that as an expectation, not a number to budget against.

What matters now is the shape of the range. For 2026 the Sequoia spanned about $64,000 to $84,400 in base MSRP before a $2,095 destination charge. That is a $20,000 spread across six grades, and the Trailhunter package is the first thing Toyota has offered that lets a buyer skip most of it.

Trailhunter package versus TRD Pro: the honest comparison

These two get mentioned in the same breath and they are not the same thing. TRD Pro is a grade near the premium end of the lineup; Trailhunter is a package on the least expensive one. Using 2026 base MSRPs, the gap between an SR5 and a TRD Pro was roughly $18,000 before options — which is the entire argument for the new package.

Read the table as a fork, not a ladder. Want hardware? The Trailhunter package on an SR5 gets you locking-differential traction and a genuinely upgraded suspension at the bottom of the price range. Want hardware plus the finish of a high-end grade? TRD Pro is still the most capable Sequoia Toyota builds.

One more line worth knowing: Toyota also offers a TRD Performance package, described as adding hardware and tuning for a more dynamic Sequoia on and off the road. Industry reporting has put its output around 466 horsepower, though Toyota has not confirmed a 2027 figure.

Inside: a 14-inch screen, a built-in dash cam and a key in your wallet

This is the change most owners will touch every day. Toyota's newest Audio Multimedia system, developed in North America with AT&T 5G connectivity, brings a home screen with customizable widgets and faster embedded voice responses to "Hey Toyota" prompts — and the 14-inch screen is now standard rather than reserved for upper grades.

Two features earn their keep in a dense city more than anywhere else. A Drive Recorder dash cam is now built in — when enabled, the exterior cameras capture 20-second clips of manual and triggered events. Anyone who has explained a parking-lot scrape to an insurer knows why that matters.

The other is the enhanced Digital Key. Beyond the Toyota app, you can manage it inside your phone's native wallet — Apple, Google or Samsung — to lock, unlock and start the vehicle, and share access with up to five additional drivers. Once enabled there, near-field communication keeps it working for a period even if the phone's battery is dead. A 2.4kW inverter handles tailgating, camping or power tools.

How the 2027 compares with the last big change

The reference point is 2023, when Toyota redesigned the Sequoia entirely. The 381-horsepower 5.7-liter V8 and six-speed automatic gave way to the i-FORCE MAX hybrid V6 and a 10-speed; fuel economy went from roughly 13 city and 17 highway to 21 and 24; towing climbed from about 7,400 pounds to as much as 9,520. The 6.1-inch Entune screen, which never offered CarPlay or Android Auto at all, was replaced outright.

Set a 2022 next to a 2027 and the distance is easy to see. Everything since has been refinement on top of that break — for 2027, a bigger screen, better shocks and a package that finally makes the off-road hardware affordable.

Safety, warranty and what the awards actually say

Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 is standard on every 2027 Sequoia, with updated hardware and detection: Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, full-speed-range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beams, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist and Proactive Driving Assist.

Coverage runs 36 months or 36,000 miles basic and 60 months or 60,000 miles on the powertrain. Hybrid components are covered eight years or 100,000 miles, the hybrid battery ten years or 150,000 miles and transferable. ToyotaCare covers scheduled maintenance for one year or 10,000 miles plus two years of roadside assistance.

On recognition: KBB.com editors named the 2026 Sequoia one of their Best Full-Size SUVs, and KBB.com earlier named the 2024 Sequoia Best Resale Value in its class. Brand-wide, Kelley Blue Book named Toyota its 2026 Best Resale Value: Brand — a sixth straight win, at 53 percent average projected five-year resale. That award shows up on your monthly statement rather than a wall, because residuals set lease payments.

Does a full-size SUV make sense in New York?

For some drivers here, yes — and for others it is the wrong tool. Worth being honest about both.

The Sequoia is full-size and body-on-frame. It will not fit every residential spot in Bay Ridge or Astoria, and garages price by size, so it sits in the expensive bracket almost everywhere. If you park on the street nightly and rarely leave the five boroughs, a Grand Highlander asks less of you.

The case for it is just as real. The hybrid is the quiet advantage in traffic — electric torque from a standstill is exactly what stop-and-go demands, and 19 mpg city in a 4WD full-size SUV beats most V8 rivals. It takes regular 87-octane and never needs a plug, which matters without deeded parking. Three rows plus up to 9,520 pounds of towing covers the family with a boat on the Sound or a camper in the Catskills. And the winter argument is not about snow on the Belt Parkway — it is the unplowed side street at 6 a.m. and the gravel access road upstate. That is the drive Trailhunter was built for.

Cross-shopping the segment? The Grand Highlander is the unibody three-row that fits city parking more easily, the Land Cruiser trades size for the same off-road intent, and the Highlander EV covers the electric end.

Plaza Toyota is part of Plaza Auto Mall, family-owned on Nostrand Avenue since 1975: five new-vehicle brands, a certified pre-owned program for each, and a multibrand used operation covering makes we do not sell new — over 1,000 vehicles in stock, all within a seven-minute walk.

For a three-row shopper that geography does real work. Drive a Sequoia, then walk to the Kia Telluride, the Hyundai Palisade and the Honda Pilot the same afternoon — one appointment, one trip. Need the third row without the footprint? The Odyssey and Carnival are a short walk apart, and Acura of Brooklyn shares the block for anything more premium.

Frequently asked questions

What does the 2027 Sequoia Trailhunter package include?
Michelin LTX Trail 265/70R18 tires, an Old Man Emu upgraded suspension, front recovery hooks and added underbody protection, plus Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control and a locking rear differential — with bronze-finished wheels and exclusive badging.
Is Trailhunter a trim level or a package on the Sequoia?
A package, and the distinction is the whole point. Toyota built it on the SR5, the least expensive Sequoia, so buyers can add serious off-road hardware without stepping up through Limited, Platinum or 1794 Edition first. TRD Pro remains a separate grade near the top of the lineup.
What changed on the 2027 Sequoia TRD Pro?
Sequoia-tuned FOX enhanced QS3 shocks that are adjustable and retuned for stability over rough ground, standard red tow hooks, and a Honeycomb paint color exclusive to TRD across the Toyota lineup. Ground clearance stays at 9.1 inches, above the 8.6 inches on other grades.
Has Toyota announced 2027 Sequoia pricing and release date?
Not yet. Toyota announced the 2027 Sequoia on July 23, 2026 with confirmed equipment and grades, but said full specifications and pricing arrive closer to the start of production in fall 2026. No firm on-sale date has been published.
How much more will the 2027 Sequoia cost than the 2026?
Toyota has not said. Industry outlets covering the announcement have suggested roughly one to three percent above 2026, which spanned about $64,000 to $84,400 in base MSRP before the $2,095 destination charge. Treat that as an expectation rather than a confirmed figure.
Does the Sequoia hybrid need to be plugged in?
No. The i-FORCE MAX system charges its own battery through the engine and regenerative braking, and runs on regular 87-octane. For New Yorkers without deeded parking or a home charger, that removes the charging question entirely.
How much can the 2027 Toyota Sequoia tow?
Toyota has not published 2027 figures. On the carryover powertrain the 2026 Sequoia tows up to 9,520 pounds properly equipped, achieved in rear-wheel-drive SR5 and Limited, with 4WD and upper grades rated slightly lower. An integrated trailer brake controller is available and Trailer Sway Control is standard.
Is a full-size SUV like the Sequoia practical for New York City?
It depends on your parking. The Sequoia is full-size and body-on-frame, so street spots are harder and garage rates sit in the higher bracket. In its favor: 19 mpg city in 4WD form on regular fuel, electric torque suited to stop-and-go, and three rows plus 9,000-plus pounds of towing for trips beyond the five boroughs.
Can I reserve a 2027 Sequoia at Plaza Toyota before it arrives?
Yes. Tell us the grade, drivetrain, package and color you want and we will match you to the first arriving allocation — no deposit, no obligation. Worth doing early for TRD Pro and Trailhunter builds, which arrive in smaller numbers than SR5 and Limited.
I am not in Brooklyn. How do delivery and service work?
We deliver purchased vehicles free within 25 miles, covering all five boroughs and much of Nassau. Service pickup and drop-off runs across the whole NYC metro area, and our team works in fifteen-plus languages.
What is Plaza Auto Mall, and why does it matter to a three-row shopper?
The family-owned group Plaza Toyota belongs to, on Nostrand Avenue since 1975. Five new-vehicle franchises — Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Kia and Acura — each with its own certified pre-owned program, sit within a seven-minute walk, with over 1,000 vehicles in stock. In a segment where cross-shopping usually means three separate trips, that is one afternoon.
Do you sell used vehicles from brands other than the five you represent?
Yes. Our multibrand used operation covers makes we do not sell new, so a used Tahoe or Expedition can sit on the same block as a certified Sequoia. Browse the full group used inventory to see what is in stock today.
