The 2027 Tundra is the first real refresh of the truck Toyota launched for 2022, with a new front end, a 14-inch screen in every cab, a built-in drive recorder, Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 and a factory Trailhunter package. Whether the bed carries tools to a job site in Queens or camping gear to the Catskills, most of it is genuinely useful.

Where the 2027 information stands. Toyota previewed the 2027 Tundra on July 21, 2026. Pricing, output, towing and fuel economy come closer to the start of production this fall, so the trim table shows current 2026 figures. We update this page when 2027 numbers land.

What's changing on the 2027 Toyota Tundra?

More than a normal model-year update. Confirmed so far:

  • New face. A squarer front end with a wide lower bumper, rectangular fog lights, grade-specific grilles and a brighter LED light bar.
  • 14-inch screen on every grade. The SR used to start with 8 inches. The new system adds 5G connectivity and a quicker voice assistant.
  • Built-in Drive Recorder. Standard, saving 20-second clips from the truck's own cameras.
  • Toyota Safety Sense 4.0. Standard across the range, replacing TSS 2.5.
  • Trailhunter package for the SR5, plus adjustable FOX QS3 shocks on the TRD Pro.
  • 2.4-kW inverter, available on i-FORCE MAX grades.
  • Front recovery hooks. Absent since the 2022 redesign, they return on off-road models, in red on the TRD Pro.

The 3.4-liter twin-turbo i-FORCE V6 and i-FORCE MAX hybrid both continue, and industry reporting expects 2026 output to carry over: 348 hp on the SR, 389 hp on other gas grades, 437 hp and 583 lb-ft for the hybrid. A higher-performance TRD Hammer is rumored; Toyota has not confirmed it.

The drive recorder deserves more attention than it gets. When a sideswipe from a double-parked van becomes your word against theirs, footage exportable on a USB stick is worth more than a new grille. It uses whatever cameras the truck has, so a Platinum with the 360-degree system records more angles than an SR.

When is the 2027 Toyota Tundra release date?

Release timing at a glance

  • Previewed: July 21, 2026, with TRD Pro and Honeycomb paint details following on July 28.
  • Full specs and pricing: fall 2026, near the start of production in San Antonio, Texas.
  • Expected arrival: late 2026 into early 2027. Kelley Blue Book expects sales to begin early in 2027.
  • Order of arrival: SR5 and Limited usually land first; TRD Pro and Capstone allocations run thinner.
  • What to do now: tell us cab, bed, grade and powertrain, and we will flag the first matching 2027 allocation. No deposit, no obligation.

Changeover season often favors the outgoing truck: 2026 Tundras share the same engines, frame and bed, and factory support on remaining stock usually beats a launch-year truck. Check our lease specials and current manufacturer incentives before you decide which year to buy.

Will the 2027 Toyota Tundra cost more?

Probably, and by more than a routine bump, since the 14-inch screen and TSS 4.0 add real hardware to the SR and SR5. Early industry estimates place the SR between about $42,000 and $44,000 before destination, against $41,260 today. For reference, the 2026 changeover added roughly $1,200 at the SR and lifted destination to $2,095.

Toyota positions Trailhunter as the more affordable route to factory trail hardware, so expect it well under the TRD Pro's $72,565. Either way, Kelley Blue Book projects the Tundra keeps 59.9% of its value after five years, and strong resale feeds lease residuals, which is why Tundra payments often look better than the sticker.

How do the Tundra and Tundra i-FORCE MAX trims compare?

All seven grades continue for 2027. The hybrid is optional on Limited, Platinum and 1794 Edition and standard on TRD Pro and Capstone.

Our pick for most New York buyers is the Limited i-FORCE MAX with 4WD: hybrid torque without Platinum pricing. If maximum towing matters most, the gas SR5 Double Cab is the version rated at 12,000 pounds.

Inside the premium grades

Platinum and up adds genuine leather, a panoramic roof, heated and ventilated seats in both rows and a 360-degree camera that earns its keep on narrow blocks. The 1794 Edition swaps in western-themed trim.

i-FORCE or i-FORCE MAX for a New York week?

The hybrid's electric motor adds 48 hp and 104 lb-ft over the gas V6 and fills the gap before the turbos build boost. Creeping up the Van Wyck with a loaded bed or merging onto the Thruway with a trailer, that low-end pull is what you notice. Fuel savings are modest: 20 mpg city against 18 with rear-wheel drive.

Towing is closer than you'd expect. The gas SR5 Double Cab tops the range at 12,000 pounds and hybrid CrewMax trucks reach roughly 11,400, enough for most boats, campers and equipment trailers leaving the city on a Friday. SR5 and above include an integrated trailer brake controller.

The new 2027 argument for the hybrid is electricity. The available 2.4-kW inverter runs a miter saw, a small compressor or a camp kitchen, which for electricians and carpenters means one less generator to haul to every job.

Trailhunter or TRD Pro for weekends upstate?

They aim at different weekends. Trailhunter is built for overlanding: slower trails, heavier loads, camp gear in the bed. Old Man Emu suspension, Michelin LTX Trail tires, a locking rear differential, Crawl Control and extra underbody protection sit on an SR5 base.

TRD Pro stays the quicker, harder-edged truck, hybrid only. For 2027 it adds adjustable FOX QS3 shocks, red tow hooks, available IsoDynamic seats and Honeycomb paint. On a washboard forest road in the Adirondacks or the sandy tracks of the Pine Barrens, adjustable damping is the change you will feel.

How the 2027 Tundra compares with the last restyle

The last full redesign arrived for 2022, and it was a clean break. The truck sold through 2021 ran a 5.7-liter V8 on leaf springs. Its replacement brought the twin-turbo V6, a coil-spring multilink rear, a composite bed, the first i-FORCE MAX hybrid and a 14-inch screen on upper grades.

2027 is the first refresh of that generation: frame, engines and bed carry over while the face, screen, safety software and trail hardware change. Shopping a used 2022 or 2023? Confirm the 2024 engine recall was completed. We will run the VIN for you, or start with a Toyota Certified truck.

Awards and good news

IIHS named the 2026 Tundra CrewMax a Top Safety Pick, the only gas or hybrid full-size pickup to earn one under the stricter 2026 criteria. Kelley Blue Book gave the Tundra its 2026 Best Resale Value award for full-size pickups and ranked it second among every vehicle it evaluated, and its reviewers credit the Tundra with the best empty-bed ride in the class. Toyota also took KBB's Best Resale Value brand award for 2026, its tenth win.

Why the Tundra works for New York drivers

Size first. A CrewMax with the 5.5-foot bed is 233.6 inches long, 80.2 wide and about 6.5 feet tall, with a 48.6-foot turning circle. Many Manhattan garages charge oversize rates for pickups, so measure before you commit.

Then the advantages that count here:

  • A composite inner bed that won't rust or dent like steel after a few winters of road salt.
  • The standard drive recorder, evidence in a city of sideswipes and disputed fender-benders.
  • TSS 4.0 with pedestrian detection on every grade, for crosswalks that never empty.
  • Resale near 60% after five years, so the truck pays back at trade-in time.
  • Factory trail hardware and recovery hooks for the Catskills, the Poconos, the Delaware Water Gap or a long run up to Maine.

One New York detail people learn late is plate type. The DMV lets a personal-use pickup with no business lettering carry passenger plates, which generally opens parkways like the Belt and the Taconic, though each parkway's agency has the final word. Commercial plates keep you off them and bring different city parking rules. Adding a roof or bed rack? Some parkway bridges are posted below seven feet.

Yes, if it is used only for personal purposes and carries no business advertising. Passenger plates generally allow parkway use, subject to each parkway agency's rules, while commercial plates do not and follow different NYC parking regulations.

Yes. Tell us the cab, bed, grade, powertrain and color, and we will match you to the first arriving allocation with no deposit and no obligation. TRD Pro, Trailhunter and Capstone builds are worth reserving early.
