Call (855) 529-1806For Our Best DealThe 2026 vs 2027 Toyota Sequoia comparison covers the first real refresh of the third-generation full-size SUV that launched for 2023. The 437-hp i-FORCE MAX hybrid carries over. Styling, standard tech, driver assistance and off-road hardware all move forward. Prices rise too: $1,005 to $3,460 on comparable four-wheel-drive grades, and because the 2027 drops rear-wheel drive, the cheapest Sequoia climbs from $65,725 to $69,900.
This page sticks to one decision: take a 2026 Sequoia now, or wait for the 2027. Everything below comes from Toyota's July 23, 2026 announcement and toyota.com pricing checked November 4, 2026.

New Styling & Lighting
You can tell the years apart from a block away. CALTY, Toyota's design studio in Ann Arbor, rebuilt the 2027 front around horizontal lines, refined the grille and bumper treatments and reimagined the bright chrome on select grades. Rectangular fog lights now sit in the bumper above a reshaped center section.
The LED light bar across the grille gets brighter output. RIGID fog lights and front recovery hooks join the options list, which suits the new off-road package.

Tech: 14-Inch Screen, Dash Cam, Digital Key
On the 2026, the SR5 starts with an 8-inch touchscreen and the 14-inch display comes higher up. Toyota's July release says the 2027 makes the 14-inch screen standard. One caution: toyota.com's 2027 SR5 listing still shows the 8-inch unit, so check the window sticker on any SR5 you consider.
The multimedia system moves to Toyota's newest version, running on AT&T 5G with widgets and a faster "Hey Toyota" assistant. Other 2027 additions:
- A factory dash cam, which Toyota calls the Drive Recorder, keeping 20-second clips from the exterior cameras.
- Digital Key that works from Apple, Google or Samsung wallets, can be shared with up to five more drivers and keeps working for a while after the phone battery dies.
- A 2.4 kW inverter for tailgates and campsites.

Toyota Safety Sense 4.0
Every 2026 Sequoia has Toyota Safety Sense 2.5. The 2027 moves to Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, with updated sensors and detection. It bundles automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, full-speed adaptive cruise, lane-keeping help, lane centering, traffic-sign recognition and auto high beams. The newest piece, Proactive Driving Assist, can ease the brakes ahead of a bend or when closing on slower traffic.
The Sequoia isn't among the IIHS 2026 Top Safety Pick winners, and the 2027 hasn't been crash-tested yet.
New Trailhunter Package
Does the 2027 Sequoia have a Trailhunter? Yes, for the first time, as a package on the SR5, the least expensive grade. It mirrors the 2027 Tundra Trailhunter and turns the family Sequoia into an overlanding rig. The package includes:
- An Old Man Emu suspension upgrade
- Michelin LTX Trail tires in 265/70R18 on bronze-colored wheels
- Front recovery hooks and extra underbody protection
- Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control and a locking rear differential
- Its own badges
Toyota has not shown the package price on toyota.com yet, so ask us for a quote on an SR5 Trailhunter build.

TRD Pro Updates
The TRD Pro stays at the top of the off-road lineup, now at $85,925. The 2027 gets newly designed, Sequoia-tuned FOX enhanced shocks with adjustable settings (Toyota's release calls them QS3), standard red tow hooks and an available TRD Performance package. Its exclusive color changes from 2026's Wave Maker to Honeycomb.
Toyota has not published details of the TRD Performance package, so we will add them when the spec sheet arrives.
2027 Sequoia Prices & Release Date
2027 pricing is live on toyota.com, and every grade costs more. One change makes the entry price look worse than it is: toyota.com lists no rear-wheel-drive 2027 Sequoia, so the SR5 and Limited now start with four-wheel drive. Compared four-wheel drive to four-wheel drive, the SR5 rises $1,175 and the Limited $1,005. The TRD Pro sees the biggest increase, $3,460.
| Grade | 2026 | 2027 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| SR5 4WD | $68,725 | $69,900 | +$1,175 |
| Limited 4WD | $74,495 | $75,500 | +$1,005 |
| Platinum | $81,735 | $83,400 | +$1,665 |
| 1794 Edition | $82,550 | $84,400 | +$1,850 |
| TRD Pro | $82,465 | $85,925 | +$3,460 |
| Capstone | $86,135 | $87,900 | +$1,765 |
The 2026 SR5 and Limited were also sold with rear-wheel drive from $65,725 and $71,495. Those versions have no 2027 equivalent.
Release date: Toyota said 2027 production begins in fall 2026 and has not published a dealer arrival date. For trim details, see our 2027 Sequoia Trailhunter and TRD Pro guide. Here we focus only on whether the 2026 or the 2027 is the better buy.

Buy a 2026 Now or Wait for a 2027?
Buy a 2026 Sequoia now if:
- Price comes first: a rear-wheel-drive 2026 SR5 or Limited lists about $4,000 below the cheapest 2027 of the same grade. With four-wheel drive the 2026 saves $1,005 to $1,175 on those grades and $1,665 to $3,460 on the others, before any current Toyota offers.
- You value two years or 25,000 miles of ToyotaCare maintenance instead of one year or 10,000 miles.
- You want rear-wheel drive. It ends with the 2026, and the RWD SR5 is also the highest-rated Sequoia for towing, at 9,500 lb on toyota.com.
Wait for a 2027 if:
- You want Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, the standard dash cam and 5G connectivity.
- You want the 14-inch screen on an SR5 budget (standard per Toyota's release; confirm on the sticker), or the new Trailhunter package.
- You're buying a TRD Pro and want the adjustable FOX shocks.
Either way, price your trade-in first.
