Shopping the 2026 vs 2027 Toyota Tundra? Start here: the 2027 is a mid-cycle refresh of the pickup Toyota rebuilt for 2022, not a new generation. Engines and bodywork behind the doors stay put, while the face, the base screen, the driver-assist suite and the off-road packages get reworked.

This page answers one question: should you take a 2026 off our Brooklyn lot now, or hold out for the 2027? Below are the confirmed differences, the gaps Toyota hasn't filled yet, and our take on who should wait.

Where things stand on November 3, 2026: no 2027 Tundra MSRPs, horsepower, tow ratings or EPA numbers have been published. This comparison gets revised once they are.

New styling: front end, grille & LED light bar

Park the two side by side and the newer truck gives itself away at the nose. Its fascia trades curves for hard, squared-off edges that read wider from the curb. The lower bumper gains a center section with rectangular fog lamps, and buyers who spend nights on unlit trails can order RIGID fogs.

Grilles still differ by trim, now drawn around a hexagon motif, and the light bar across the grille glows brighter. Toyota's release is silent on the cab and bed, which points to Double Cab and CrewMax bodies carrying over unchanged.

Tech: standard 14-inch screen, 5G, dash cam

A 2026 SR or SR5 shopper gets an 8-inch display unless they pay for more. On the 2027, the 14-inch unit is fitted to every truck, base SR included. For contractors who spec the cheaper grades, this alone may justify waiting.

Software moves forward too: the multimedia system now rides on AT&T's 5G network, supports home-screen widgets and answers “Hey Toyota” faster. Three more additions:

  • A built-in Drive Recorder that stores 20-second clips, useful evidence after a scrape on Flatbush Avenue.
  • Digital Key stored in your phone's wallet app, with sharing for up to five drivers.
  • On hybrid trucks, a 2.4 kW inverter to run power tools or a work light.

Toyota Safety Sense 4.0

All 2026 Tundras ship with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5. The 2027 steps up two generations to Toyota Safety Sense 4.0. It still bundles collision warning with pedestrian detection, radar cruise that works down to a stop, lane departure alert with steering help and auto high beams. The new piece is Proactive Driving Assist, which can brake gently ahead of a curve and nudge the truck to hold space from a car, cyclist or walker in front.

The 2026 Tundra crew cab is a 2026 IIHS Top Safety Pick. No 2027 crash results exist yet.

New Trailhunter package on SR5

Toyota has used the Trailhunter badge for overlanding builds of the Tacoma, 4Runner and Sequoia. For 2027 the Tundra joins them through a package for the SR5, which Toyota positions as a cheaper path to serious trail gear than the TRD Pro.

Underneath sits an Old Man Emu suspension, with 265/70R18 Michelin LTX Trail tires on bronze wheels. Recovery hooks up front, added skid protection, a rear locker, Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control complete the kit, along with unique badges.

The 2026 SR5's dirt-road option was the TRD Rally package, and Toyota hasn't confirmed whether it survives. Trailhunter has no official price; KBB guesses roughly $53,500. AutoGuide's first drive reports that, being SR5-based, it skips the hybrid.

TRD Pro updates

The 2026 TRD Pro was hybrid-only and rode on FOX 2.5-inch internal-bypass dampers. Its 2027 successor swaps to FOX enhanced QS3 shocks tuned for the Tundra, with three settings so you can stiffen them for washboard gravel or relax them for the expressway.

Also new: Honeycomb paint, red front tow hooks as standard and an optional TRD Performance package. IsoDynamic seats stay on the options list, as they were for 2026.

i-FORCE MAX hybrid: 2026 vs 2027

In the 2026 truck, i-FORCE MAX teams the 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 with a motor sandwiched into the 10-speed automatic, good for 437 hp and 583 lb-ft. The non-hybrid V6 delivers 389 hp and 479 lb-ft, dropping to 348 hp and 405 lb-ft on the SR. On the Limited, Platinum and 1794 Edition the hybrid was a $3,700–$3,925 upgrade; TRD Pro and Capstone include it.

For 2027 the hybrid continues and gains the 2.4 kW inverter, but Toyota has kept quiet on output, towing and mpg. Hybrid parts are warrantied for 8 years or 100,000 miles, the battery for 10 years or 150,000 miles.

2027 Tundra prices & release date

No 2027 MSRP or on-sale date yet. Toyota's July release promised pricing in fall 2026, with production starting this fall. For trim-by-trim estimates and arrival tracking, see our 2027 Tundra pricing and release-date guide; this page sticks to the year-over-year decision.

Is the 2027 Tundra a refresh?

What is the 2027 Tundra Trailhunter?
It is a new overlanding package for the SR5 with Old Man Emu suspension, 265/70R18 Michelin LTX Trail tires on bronze wheels, front recovery hooks, extra skid protection, a locking rear differential, Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control and its own badges. Toyota hasn't priced it yet.
When does the 2027 Tundra come out?
Toyota planned to announce 2027 pricing in fall 2026, with production starting this fall. As of November 3, 2026, there is no official on-sale date; Kelley Blue Book expects trucks in showrooms in winter 2026-2027.

Plaza Toyota belongs to Plaza Auto Mall, a family business on Nostrand Avenue since 1975. Five new-car franchises and a large used-car operation share one Brooklyn block, so you can compare trucks and SUVs across brands in a single afternoon.

Want something smaller than a Tundra? Look at the 2027 Tacoma or the 4Runner. A short walk away, the 2027 Honda Ridgeline rides more like an SUV and hides a lockable trunk under its bed floor. Plaza Kia, Plaza Hyundai and Acura of Brooklyn round out the mall.
